Abstract
Bäcklund transformations (BTs) are examined from the point of view of monodromy data. Symmetries of BTs are expressed using infinite dimensional Lie algebras (called Lie-Mikhailov algebras) reflecting gauge symmetries and conformal symmetries in the spectral parameter. Associated lattice and differential completely integrable systems are studied.
