Abstract
We considered disaggregation and surface modification of aggregated nanosized diamond by average acoustic intensity of acoustic parameter. Nanosized diamond consisted of primary particles with sizes of about 5nm. However it aggregated to particles with sizes of about 5/spl mu/m. The purpose of the study is development of a ultrasound exposure system to disaggregate and modify the surface of aggregated nanosized diamond. The zeta potential and average particle size was improved with ultrasound exposure system of Langevin type transducer equipped on the vibrating disk. When average acoustic intensity was increased, zeta potential improved. When it was increased average particle size decreased. We confirmed that sonicated nanosized diamond has hydroxyl groups by FT-IR. Threshold of average acoustic intensity for modification of diamond particles lies between 18w/m/sup 2/ and 39 w/m/sup 2/.
