Abstract

The vanadium-bearing steel slag (VBSS) and titanium white waste acid (TWWA) are two kinds of metallurgical waste. In this paper, a new idea of collaborative reuse of metallurgical wastes was proposed in which TWWA was used as leaching agent to extract vanadium from VBSS.The orthogonal experimental results indicated that,H2SO4 concentration has the most dominant effect on the leaching rate of vanadium, followed by liquid/solid (L/S) ratio. Moreover, the effect of leaching time, leaching temperature and stirring speed seems comparatively negligible. Single-factor experiments indicated that about 95% of the vanadium can be extracted effectively under the following conditions: H2SO4 concentration of 300 g L−1, L/S ratio of 9:1, time of 60 min, stirring speed of 150 r min−1, at 363 K. Moreover, the leach residue contained only 0.06% of vanadium, which can be used as additive in cement industry.
