Abstract
• Cobalt Doped Bismuth Nanoparticle was successfully synthesized by Sol - Gel techniques. • Pristine Bismuth Ferrite exhibits the absorption peak at 592 nm and a maximum blue shift of 82 nm is observed for 7% Cobalt doped Bismuth Ferrite Nanoparticless. • The band gap energy of pristine Bismuth Ferrite Nanoparticles was found to be 2.07 eV which shifts to 2.43 eV for 7% Cobalt doped Bismuth Ferrite Nanoparticles. Cobalt doped Bismuth Ferrite Nanoparticles [BiFe 1-x Co x O 3 ], where x = 0.00, 0.01, 0.03, 0.05 and 0.07 were synthesized by ethylene glycol- based sol–gel technique and annealed at relatively low temperature of 550 °C. XRD confirmed the phase pure formation of pristine BiFeO 3 , and cobalt doped BiFeO 3 samples. The crystallite sizes as determined by Scherrer equation were found to be 46 nm, 50 nm, 48 nm, 45 nm and 43 nm for 0%, 1%, 3%, 5% and 7% cobalt doped Bismuth ferrite nanoparticles respectively. The Absorption spectra was performed by Uv Visible Spectroscopy. Band gap energy was calculated by Tauc Equation. Band Gap energy was enhanced by increasing doping concentration of Cobalt.
