Abstract

Abstract A study was conducted in April, 1981 to determine the efficacy of insecticidal soap for Balsam Twig Aphid control. Two locations in Ashe County, NC and 1 location in Waynesville, NC were selected as test sites. At each site, 100 Fraser fir trees were sprayed with Safer’s Insecticidal Soap (1.5 oz/gal) using a Solo backpack mist blower. A second block of 100 trees was left as a control. Twenty, 15-cm twig samples were taken from the center of each block before treatment and 1, 2 and 4 wk after treatment. The samples were analyzed for Balsam Twig Aphid eggs and motiles.
