Abstract
This article discusses the use of groundwater resources to increase the water supply, along with allowing groundwater levels to decline in order to provide storage space to receive recharge, thus preventing the pumping of aquifers to total depletion. The article discusses proper long‐range planning, or water resource management, in order to effectively use groundwater reservoirs. The article discusses the well fields of Columbia, Missouri and Wichita, Kansas, as examples of proper analysis and study of the system to determine what quantity of water can be developed annually without depleting the supply.
