Abstract

In this paper we consider the backup multifacility location problem. The multifacility location problem asks to find location of a number of facilities in the plane such that the sum of weighted distances between new facilities to existing facilities and each pair of new facilities is minimized. In the backup case some facilities may fail with a given probability. When a facility fails, the other facilities should serve its clients. We consider the case that the distances in the plane are measured by the l p norm and propose an iterative method which is a generalization of the Weiszfeld algorithm for solving the problem.
