Abstract

The characteristics of backscattering of light by hexagonal crystals, namely, the depolarization ratio and backscattering cross section, are numerically studied. The dependence of the microphysical characteristics of backscattering on the particle shape in the case of chaotic particle orientation is investigated. The numerical study is performed using a computer code, developed by the author; it combines two approaches: the ray-tracing technique and the physical-optics method.
