Abstract

AbstractIncluded in this issue is a collection of 15 articles dedicated to Dr. Walter Braun on the occasion of his 60th birthday. At the storage ring BESSY in Berlin, Walter Braun is responsible for the allocation of beam time and user coordination. All contributions were written by close friends and colleagues who have been involved in research collaborations with Walter Braun in the past and present. The photo on the left shows the main entrance to BESSY I, the electron‐storage ring facility which was founded in Berlin‐Wilmersdorf in 1979. In 1993, only a few years after the Berlin Wall had come down, construction of BESSY II started in Adlershof, located on the grounds of the former GDR Academy of Sciences in Berlin's south east. The photo on the right shows an external view of the experimental hall (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
