Abstract

Bacampicillin, a prodrug of ampicillin, is an orally active antibiotic of the aminopenicillin family. A beta-lactam antibiotic, bacampicillin is active against gram-positive cocci, including nonpenicillin resistant streptococcal, staphylococcal, and enterococcal species. It displays activity against some gram-negative organisms, gram-positive anaerobic organisms, and gram-negative anaerobic organisms.
