M. Abstract Saturn's ring A exhibits a variation in brightness with azimuth (with orbital phase of the ring particles). Maximum brightness occurs at true orbital phase angles of about 45 and 225 deg; minimum brightness-occurs at about 135 and 315 deg, where the eastern ansa is taken as zero deg. No such effect appears to exist for ring B.
