Abstract

The good radiation conditions obtained from vibrating plates with stepped thickness has been pointed out in previous studies [1, 2]. In this paper the axisymmetric vibration of circular plates with a single circular step is analysed. Applying the classical uniform plate solution to each zone of different thickness and considering the continuity and boundary conditions yield a system of six equations. Solving the system by computer methods then yields the frequency and the dynamic curve of the vibration mode under consideration. Theoretical results are compared to the experimental ones in order to confirm the validity of this procedure.
