Abstract

Crystal plasticity and continuum models are described for the simulation of the large strain fixed and free end torsion testing of metals. It is shown that the axial stresses developed under fixed end conditions as well as the length changes occurring under free end conditions are associated with deformation-induced plastic anisotropies. The crystal plasticity model can predict all these phenomena when the strain rate sensitivity of slip is taken into account.
