Abstract

The APA Awards for Distinguished Scientific Early Career Contributions to Psychology recognize psychologists who have demonstrated excellence early in their careers and have held a doctoral degree for no more than 9 years. One of the 2019 award winners is Mesmin Destin, "for insightful contributions to understanding how the social environment matters in the lives of young people, particularly first-generation college students and students from low socioeconomic status backgrounds. Drawing from multiple theoretical and methodological approaches, Mesmin Destin designs and tests interventions that engage the natural network-other students, older peers, and parents-to enhance students' motivation, achievement, health, and well-being."
