Abstract

The Board of Educational Affairs is pleased to bestow the Award for Distinguished Contributions of Applications of Psychology to Education and Training. This award acknowledges psychologists who contribute to new teaching methods or solutions to learning problems through the use of research findings or evidence-based practices. Particular emphasis is placed on the use of psychological knowledge to improve learning in educational settings, including prekindergarten to Grade 12, or in communities. The 2022 recipient of the APA Award for Distinguished Contributions of Applications of Psychology to Education and Training was selected by the 2021 Education and Training Awards Committee appointed by the Board of Educational Affairs. Michele Gregoire Gill is recognized for her influence on education and training in psychology. She founded the Galileo School for Gifted Learning, a free public K-8 charter school. The school employs a talent development model derived from the psychology of human performance and gifted achievement to build on the strengths of all students. The school's numerous awards evidence Gill's commitment to using psychological evidence to inform and sustain the development of learning environments. In 2018, APA recognized Dr. Gill as a Citizen Psychologist. She has served on the APA Council of Representatives, the Board of Educational Affairs' Coalition for Psychology in Schools and Education, and the Executive Committee of APA's Division 15: Educational Psychology.
