Abstract

Abstract The aircraft crashworthiness problem is addressed by first reviewing some recent accident statistics for the aerospace industry. The regulatory requirements related to dynamic seat testing are reviewed as well as background material which provided the basis for the rulemaking. Finally, a systems approach is recommended to seat design problems as the best means to satisfy the requirements. Simple guidelines are presented for several detailed problems and the application of computer modeling techniques is reviewed.
