Abstract
At the heart of the media cultures defined by Jean Baudrillard at the end of the last century has emerged a culture that is out of sync, hybridizing the mechanics of entertainment with visions of the order of critical philosophy. Oriented towards the most radical otherness, it defies patriarchal society and predatory capitalism. This philo pop culture is embodied in series such as Watchmen and science-fiction novels by authors such as Becky Chambers. Heir to writers such as J. G. Ballard and Philip K. Dick, Chambers gives concrete expression in the globalized cultural field to an operation that Baudrillard himself called for in Simulacres et simulation back in 1981: “reinventing reality as fiction.”
