Abstract

In the current study 49 rams of the Santa Ines breed were evaluated through andrologic examinations and ultrasonographic images of the testicles and annexes sexual glands, aiming the ultrasonography utilization as a diagnosis feature, for the morphophysiologic evaluation of future reproducers. The animals were divided into three groups G1 with 20 animals of 18 month-old, G2 with 15 animals of 30 month-old and G3 with 14 animals of 48 month-old. The following measurements were performed: length, width, volume and shape testicle, and also scrotal circumference. The semen was obtained through eletroejaculation and the evaluations performed according to CBRA (1998). The ultrasonographic analyses were performed, before and after ejaculation, beginning with the testicles (parenchyma and mediastinum). The slight testicle calcification was found in high frequency independently of the age. The predominant echotexture of bulbourethral and vesicular glands was hypoechoic with low density. In summary, ultrasonography has shown itself as an efficient tool for parenchyma and testicular mediastinum visualization and classification, as well as for the study of annexes sex glands of Santa Ines rams. KEY WORDS: Annexes sexual glands, ram, Santa Ines, testicles, ultrasonography.
