Abstract
Two-unit series subject to shut-off rules have been treated before. For increasing system availability a new model is considered, which is composed of a 2 3 : G main subsystem and another secondary subsystem. If more than two units of the main subsystem are inoperable, then the main subsystem shuts off the secondary subsystem. For this model, the system availability is obtained by the technique of the Markov renewal process. Then we obtain the mean inter-occurrence shut-off time and the steady-state probability that the system is under shut-off.
