Abstract

IT was reported in a previous communication1 that peracetic acid reacts with α- and β-diisobutylenes to give an unsaturated alcohol and high-boiling material of the molecular formula C16H32O3 in addition to the expected glycol. Thus β-diisobutylene (I) yields the unsaturated alcohol (II) with alteration in the position of the double bond ; α-diisobutylene (III) gives rise to the two unsaturated alcohols (IV) and (V).
