Abstract

Autographa precationis Guenee is occasionally observed feeding on soybean in east central Illinois. The life cycle under controlled environmental conditions was investigated and based on our results the species may have 2 complete generations during the growing season in this region. Analyses of food intake and utilization revealed that soybean is an adequate food for larval growth and development but efficiency of food utilization and approximate digestibility were lower than those observed with Pseudoplusia includens , which is apparently better adapted to this crop. A source of carbohydrate is required by adult moths for realization of full oviposition potential.
