Abstract

AbstractIT IS GENERALLY KNOWN that some women bruise easily and develop ecchymoses particularly in the lower extremities, without definite trauma. Studies of the blood clotting factors in such individuals have yielded normal or equivocal results. This vague hemorrhagic diathesis has been called ‘‘purpura simplex” and described as consisting merely of easy bruising and bleeding into the skin and subcutaneous tissues. It is usually only a source of minor annoyance to the subject, and otherwise of little significance.
