Abstract

We thank Dr. Sethi for the comment and inquiry. In this sample,1 no concussed athletes reported loss of consciousness and only 2 athletes reported posttraumatic amnesia. Thus, we were unable to appropriately address the potential effects of these injury characteristics on the studied markers. Regarding the normalization of the inflammatory markers relative to symptom resolution, as seen in figure 2,1 the levels of interleukin-1 receptor agonist and interleukin-6 returned to the baseline levels by the 24–48-hour visit, whereas symptom severity scores remained elevated. That is, elevations in these inflammatory markers resolved before the symptoms did and the inflammatory markers only showed a prognostic promise when collected within 6 hours postinjury.
