Abstract

Abstract Nowadays many particulate products are coated to avoid dust formation and breakage when subjected to forces with different magnitude and direction. In order to distinguish the influence of each force, different testers are needed. In this work Purox-S and Cellets 1000 core particles were coated in a top spray fluid bed coater by three different pre-mixed polymer coating systems (Opadry®, Kollicoat® IR and Instacoat AQUA). The repeated impact tester (RIT) was used to measure their strength toward attrition caused by low magnitude normal forces. Tangential forces may also cause rupture to the particles, so an abrasion tester was used to measure this amount of damage caused to the particles. This work provides information on the resistance of the core particles coated with different mixed polymers against attrition and abrasion.
