Abstract

Abstract In 1984, the Davison Art Center at Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut, was given an album of fifty photographs by Eugene Atget. Entitled Interieurs d'Eglises in Atget's hand on the cover (figure 1), it is a collection of views of ecclesiastical architecture and decoration. Despite its relatively specialized focus, the images in the album are consistent with Atget's other work, and they are valuable for what they reveal about Atget's intentions and methods as a documentary photographer.1 The present article is meant as a concise introduction to this unusual example of Atget's oeuvre.
