Abstract

The charge asymmetry, helicity asymmetry (lepton polarization) and charge-helicity asymmetry of the lepton pair emerging from the decay of the Z0-boson produced in hadronic collisions are calculated by using the lowest-order Drell-Yan mechanism and the Weinberg-Salam model. Numerical results obtained by using different parametrizations for the parton distributions are given both for\(p\bar p\) collisions at\(\sqrt 8 = 540 GeV\) and for pp collisions at\(\sqrt 8 = 800 GeV\). We show that, under certain kinematical conditions, both the cross-section dσ/dM and asymmetries are large enough to be experimentally accessible. Although the cross-section dσ/dM is sensitive to the parametrizations employed, the asymmetries themselves depend very weakly on the parametrizations except for τ near to 1.
