Abstract
Abstract This research and intervention pilot project concerns deaf infants under 3 years of age and their families. Aspects of developing object relationships, psychosexual organization, and certain ego functions in deaf infants of both deaf and hearing parents were compared with parallel landmarks of development found in hearing infants. The deaf infants, with rare exception, showed delay in all three sectors of development. The relevance of these findings for understanding psychosexual and ego development in the deaf is discussed, along with their implications for effective therapeutic intervention in regard to deaf infants and their families.
