Abstract
The need for a balanced approach to all the components of communicative competence in language teaching is extensively proven from a theoretical standpoint. In practice, however, the linguistic dimension, particularly the lexical one, prevails in the teaching-learning process, to the detriment of the other elements. The article highlights the importance of creating a balance among all the CC components, emphasizing that special attention should be paid to the pragmatic competence in a formal setting. Some effective teaching strategies in this regard are also described.
