Abstract
The medical specialty of radiology has experienced several extremely important and influential technical developments in the past that have affected how medical imaging is deployed. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is potentially another such development that will introduce fundamental changes to the practice of radiology. Among the most promising clinical applications of AI is diagnostic imaging, and mounting attention is being directed at establishing and fine-tuning its performance to facilitate the detection and quantification of a wide array of clinical conditions. Case studies of computer-aided diagnosis have shown excellent accuracy and specificity for detecting small radiographic abnormalities with the potential to improve public health.
