Abstract

Objective To discuss the treatment options for post-traumatic proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint stiffness.Methods Between February 2008 and September 2011,11 patients with PIP joint stiffness after trauma were treated with arthrolysis.Postoperative regular exercise under elastic traction was applied.Results Two patients were lost to follow-up,while 9 patients were follow-up for 3 to 36 months postoperatively.Based on the total active motion (TAM) rating system of the Chinese Medical Association for Surgery of the Hand,the results were excellent in 5 cases,good in 3 cases,and fair in 1 case.The overall excellent and good rate was 88.9%.Conclusion Arthrolysis combined with elastic traction is an effective method to treat post-traumatic PIP joint stiffness.
