Abstract

A 13-year-old girl was noted to have arteriovascular calcification (AV) on the lateral view of left ankle radiograph, obtained because of sprain (Figure 1). AV calcification is seen in hypertension and diabetes. She denies polyuria, polydipsia, but has occasional nocturia. Her father, paternal grandfather, and 3 paternal aunts, who are lean, have diabetes (Figure 2; available at www.jpeds.com). Physical examination showed a lean, Caucasian female with weight 55.8 kg, body mass index 21 kg/m2, height 160.7 cm, and blood pressure 106/70 mm Hg without acanthosis nigricans.
