Purpose This study explores the determinants influencing the adoption of telemedicine services by older adults in a low-income developing country, utilizing a combined methodological approach of partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) and artificial neural network (ANN) analysis. Design/methodology/approach Employing a purposive sampling technique, data from 348 respondents were analysed to identify significant predictors of telemedicine adoption intention. Findings The findings indicate that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, perceived knowledge and perceived severity positively influence attitudes toward telemedicine. Conversely, perceived vulnerability, response efficacy and self-efficacy did not show a significant impact on attitude. Additionally, while perceived risk was found to negatively moderate the relationship between attitude and adoption intention, resistance to change did not exhibit any moderating effect on this relationship. On the other hand, sensitivity analysis using ANN identified perceived usefulness as the most influential factor on attitude (100%), followed by perceived ease of use (32.9%), perceived knowledge (29.0%) and perceived severity (28.8%) (Model A). Similarly, Model B highlights the fact that attitude toward telemedicine is the most influential factor in generating adoption intention among older adults (100%). Meanwhile, the findings from fsQCA uncovered seven distinct combinations that are equally effective in generating a positive attitude toward telemedicine adoption. Furthermore, fsQCA revealed that self-efficacy and response efficacy are the most significant antecedents influencing attitudes toward telemedicine services. Practical implications The results offer nuanced insights into the facilitators and barriers to telemedicine adoption among older populations in contexts like Bangladesh. These findings have critical implications for service providers, healthcare professionals and policymakers aiming to enhance telemedicine usage among older adults in developing regions. Originality/value The study’s originality lies in the integration of the Technology Acceptance Model and Protection Motivation Theory within a comprehensive structural model, alongside the application of both symmetric and asymmetric analytical techniques. By merging diverse theoretical frameworks and robust methodologies, this research contributes substantially to the literature on digital health services adoption and lays the groundwork for future interventions.

PurposeDespite the increased use of wearables in education, little attention has been paid to why some students are more likely to adopt smartwatches than others. The question of what impacts the adoption of smartwatches in educational activities is still neglected. In addition, the question of how security determinants can affect the adoption of smartwatches by students has not been addressed yet. Hence, this study aims to develop a theoretical model by integrating the technology acceptance model (TAM) and protection motivation theory (PMT) to study students' adoption of smartwatches for educational purposes.Design/methodology/approachQuestionnaires were distributed to university students in Malaysia. A total of 679 valid responses were collected. The collected data were analyzed using partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM).FindingsThe results of data analysis provide support for the proposed model. Furthermore, the findings indicated that perceived vulnerability, self-efficacy, response efficacy, response cost, ease of use and perceived usefulness have significant effects on students' behavioral intention to use smartwatches for educational purposes. In addition, perceived ease of use of smartwatches for educational purposes helps students to realize the benefits of this technology.Originality/valueThis is an original study that develops a new holistic theoretical model by combining the PMT and TAM to study the effects of ease of use, usefulness and security-related factors on the adoption of smartwatches for educational purposes. The study offers practical implications for universities and higher education institutions to improve students' learning experiences to ensure their sustainability using new and innovative ways by exploiting new technologies such as smartwatches.

ABSTRACTBackgroundColorectal cancer (CRC) screening reduces mortality by 40%–60%, yet participation remains low globally. In this study, we applied protection motivation theory (PMT) to identify determinants of CRC screening behavior in Iran using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS‐SEM).Design and MethodsThis cross‐sectional study was conducted on 433 adults over 50 years of age using stratified sampling in Neyshabur, Iran in 2024. Participants completed a validated 43‐item PMT questionnaire assessing key cognitive factors (perceived sensitivity, severity, self‐efficacy, response efficacy, response costs, fear, rewards, and behavioral intention), with self‐reported screening behavior as the outcome.ResultsAmong the PMT constructs, self‐efficacy had the highest mean score (69.43 ± 18.97 out of 100), while actual screening behavior had the lowest (26.12 ± 9.93 out of 100). PLS‐SEM analysis revealed significant pathways: perceived severity (β = 0.118, p = 0.030) and response efficacy (β = 0.172, p = 0.003) positively influenced behavioral intention, while perceived rewards negatively impacted intention (β = −0.197, p < 0.001). Fear mediated sensitivity/severity effects on intention (β = 0.155, p = 0.003). Notably, self‐efficacy and response costs showed nonsignificant relationships with intention.ConclusionParticipants demonstrated moderate intention (54.8 of 100) yet low screening behavior (26.1 of 100), highlighting a critical intention–behavior gap. While PMT constructs effectively predicted screening intention, their limited ability to explain behavior underscores the influence of contextual barriers beyond cognitive appraisals in this Iranian cohort. Future interventions should integrate PMT‐based education targeting threat appraisal with system‐level strategies (e.g., mailed test kits, navigational support) to bridge this implementation gap.

This study explores the key factors driving the acceptance of online pharmacies in Uttarakhand, India, leveraging the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and integrating constructs from the extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT 2) and Protection Motivation Theory (PMT). Using a structured survey methodology, data were collected from 571 respondents across four districts of Uttarakhand: Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital, and Almora. The research employed a partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach for data analysis, ensuring robust insights. The study identifies Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU), Perceived Usefulness (PU), Price Value (PV), Social Influence (SI), Facilitating Conditions (FC), and Perceived Vulnerability (PUV) as critical determinants of behavioral intention toward e-pharmacy adoption. Consumer education emerged as a significant moderating factor, revealing its pivotal role in enhancing the likelihood of telemedicine and e-pharmacy adoption. This research fills a critical gap in understanding the factors influencing e-pharmacy adoption in India, particularly in the post-pandemic era. The integration of TAM, UTAUT 2, and PMT provides a comprehensive theoretical foundation for future studies on Health Information Technology (HIT) adoption. By examining the intersection of technology, healthcare, and consumer behavior, this study contributes to the evolving discourse on digital transformation in the pharmaceutical industry, paving the way for more inclusive and efficient healthcare delivery systems.

In higher education, PLS-SEM supports the study of multidimensional relationships, such as technology acceptance behavior and educational innovation effectiveness. PLS-SEM is a powerful analytical tool used to test complex theoretical models, especially in cases where data are limited or non-normally distributed. TAM provides a theoretical foundation for usefulness and ease of use, while IRT emphasizes psychological and functional barriers to innovation. Data were collected from 420 lecturers at Vietnamese higher education institutions on the acceptance of using artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education to test the integrated model of TAM and IRT. The results show that perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived ease of use (PEU) positively affect attitudes and intentions to adopt AI. In contrast, IRT barriers such as complexity of use, value, risk, and tradition have adverse effects, limiting lecturers’ application of AI in teaching. The research results contribute to the expansion of PLS-SEM applications in higher education and provide recommendations for managers to promote the acceptance of AI technology and reduce barriers to innovation in this field.

This study aims to analyze how the Islamic banking customer accepts mobile banking services and their behavior in using them. This study also aims to test the effect of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) theory with spiritual motivation on customer intentions. This study uses quantitative methods with primary data obtained through the distribution of online questionnaires to Islamic banking customers who use mobile banking services. The data analysis technique used is Structural Equation Modeling – Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS). Islamic bank customers who receive and use mobile banking services are influenced by perceptions of convenience, perceived usefulness, attitudes, and intentions such as the Technology Acceptance Model theory. The level of spiritual motivation in this study can affect the intentions of Islamic bank customers as mobile banking users in Indonesia. This research is expected to be useful as additional information is needed to improve services for customers. This study examines Islamic bank customers who use mobile banking services and becomes the latest research after the merger of Islamic banks in Indonesia.

Smart tourism technologies (STTs) have become a critical part of the travel journey, but it remains unclear how individuals decide to use them based on the risks (e.g., privacy concerns) and benefits associated with their use (e.g., perceived usefulness). Thus, the current study investigates the privacy calculus of STTs by integrating the technology acceptance model (TAM) and protection motivation theory (PMT). It examines how tourists balance STT benefits against privacy risks. Using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS‐SEM), data was analyzed from 550 visitors to China who used STTs during their trip. Results show that perceived usefulness and ease of use influence positive attitudes toward STTs, enhancing tourist satisfaction and revisit intentions. However, privacy concerns, as posited by PMT, do not significantly affect satisfaction or revisit intentions, highlighting the privacy paradox. These findings extend TAM and PMT to smart tourism, offering insights for practitioners to prioritize user‐friendly STT designs.

Abstract: By leveraging digital technology, Laporkitong enhances transparency and accountability, as well as facilitates public participation in the oversight and enforcement processes related to land use and natural resource management. The Laporkitong website functions as an online reporting application aimed at documenting instances of spatial planning violations in the West Papua Province. The lack of public knowledge about the Laporkitong application has led to numerous issues. Therefore, an analysis of the adoption of the Laporkitong application is necessary. This study aims to investigate the influence of Perceived Quality, Perceived Control, and Perceived Ease of Use factors as determinants of the residents' willingness to use the Laporkitong application, employing the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and DeLone and McLean IS Success (IS D&M) theories. As many as 160 valid respondents are gathered based purposive sampling technique and evaluated using Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results inform that all seven hypotheses are accepted with the R-square of the intention to use is 0.273 indicationg 27.3% variance of the model can determine the outcome. Further discussion and conclusion regarding the implication of theoretical and practical contribution are also discussed. Website Laporkitong berfungsi sebagai aplikasi pelaporan online yang bertujuan untuk mendokumentasikan pelanggaran perencanaan tata ruang di Provinsi Papua Barat. Minimnya pengetahuan masyarakat terhadap aplikasi Laporkitong menyebabkan banyak permasalahan. Maka dari itu perlu dilakukan analisis mengenai adopsi pada aplikasi Laporkitong. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki pengaruh faktor Kualitas yang Dirasakan, Kendali yang Dirasakan, dan Kemudahan Penggunaan yang Dirasakan sebagai penentu keinginan penduduk untuk menggunakan aplikasi Laporkitong, dengan menggunakan Model Penerimaan Teknologi (TAM) dan teori Kesuksesan Sistem Informasi (IS D&M) DeLone dan McLean. Sebanyak 160 responden valid dikumpulkan berdasarkan teknik purposive sampling dan dievaluasi menggunakan Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa semua tujuh hipotesis diterima dengan R-square niat untuk menggunakan adalah 0,273, menunjukkan bahwa 27,3% variasi model dapat menentukan hasilnya. Diskusi lebih lanjut dan kesimpulan mengenai implikasi kontribusi teoritis dan praktis juga dibahas. Abstract
 
 The development of banking service technology now allows us to do non-cash transactions using various media. Electronic money as one of the favorite media that is widely used by the public is now experiencing innovation with the new breakthrough of Electronic Money Flazz Gen 2 that can conduct transaction services via smartphones. With this latest innovation comes a question related to what factors that influence people using electronic money Flazz Gen 2. Therefore, quantitative research using a questionnaire conducted using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling – Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) method assisted by software SmartPLS 3.0. The factors studied were taken from the variables in the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) developed by Davis et.al (1996), namely perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and trust variables taken from Gefen's theory (2003).

This paper explores cybersecurity compliance behavior in organizations, focusing on the interplay of individual and organizational factors. Employing Protection Motivation Theory (PMT), the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), and Organizational Culture Theory (OCT), the study examines how employees’ perceptions of threat severity, vulnerability, response efficacy, and response cost influence their compliance intentions. It also assesses the impact of organizational cybersecurity efforts and employee security awareness. The research, guided by insights from Rogers, Ajzen, and Schein, utilizes a quantitative methodology with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) and Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA) to analyze complex relationships between these factors. The findings highlight the significant role of individual decision-making styles, organizational culture, and the effectiveness of security technologies in shaping cybersecurity compliance. This study contributes to the literature by providing a comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity compliance behavior, offering valuable insights for organizations to develop effective strategies and enhance their cybersecurity posture in an increasingly digital world.

PurposeDrawing on protection motivation theory (PMT), this study aims to explore the factors that enhance cybersecurity awareness among online banking users in Malaysia. More specifically, it investigates the influences of perceived vulnerability, perceived severity, technical knowledge, privacy intrusions and privacy awareness on perceived threats and then examines the effects of perceived threats, along with response efficacy and self-efficacy, on cybersecurity awareness, considering the moderating role of fear of cyberattacks.Design/methodology/approachA survey-based research approach was applied, and the hypotheses were tested using a sample of 324 respondents, employing partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM).FindingsThe results show that perceived vulnerability, perceived severity, privacy intrusions and privacy awareness significantly influence perceived threats, while technical knowledge does not influence perceived threats. Furthermore, it was found that response efficacy and self-efficacy both enhance cybersecurity awareness, while perceived threats have no influence on it. Finally, our research confirmed the moderating role of fear of cyberattacks in the relationship between self-efficacy and cybersecurity awareness.Practical implicationsFor individuals, the study highlights the significance of fear, privacy awareness and response efficacy in shaping cybersecurity perceptions, paving the way for enhanced and tailored awareness programs. Moreover, the understanding of relationships between perceived threats, response efficacy and self-efficacy empowers individuals to craft personalized risk mitigation strategies, fostering confidence in navigating the digital landscape. Businesses can leverage the insights for informed design of employee training programs and data-driven decision-making in cybersecurity investments. Government entities, recognizing the nuanced relationship between perceived threats and cybersecurity awareness, are encouraged to formulate context-specific policies and foster cross-sector collaboration for comprehensive cybersecurity initiatives.Originality/valueThis research extends PMT by incorporating additional antecedent variables – namely, technical knowledge, privacy intrusions and privacy awareness within the online banking context that have been overlooked thus far. Furthermore, it delves into the unique role of fear of cyberattack as a moderating variable, thereby enhancing our understanding of PMT.

Purpose Drawing upon the protection motivation theory (PMT) and technology readiness (TR) framework, this study investigated the determinants of older adults’ adoption behavior of mobile health (mHealth) apps in the US. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from six hundred older adults using a crowdsourcing platform and subjected to partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). Findings The symmetrical analysis (PLS-SEM) revealed that coping appraisals, especially response efficacy, are more powerful predictors of attitudes and adoption intentions than threat appraisals. Meanwhile, both positive and negative TR significantly influence coping appraisals. In addition, the asymmetrical analysis (fsQCA) suggested five and four configurations that explain the high and low levels of adoption intentions, respectively, by exposing asymmetric relationships between TR and PMT components. Originality/value The findings of this study offer meaningful implications for developers, marketers, and policymakers aimed at promoting older adults’ adoption and use of mHealth apps.

To face Industrial Revolution 4.0, company start to invest Information Technology (IT) system to improve effectiveness and efficiency in decision making and business processes. One of the technology investments chosen by a lot of companies is using the Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) system. However, the ERP implementation has a 60-90% failure risk (Ahmad, 2014) and user technology readiness is the main key for the success of ERP implementation (Sun, 2011). To make strategies that fit the needs of food service company, this research was evaluating the Technology Readiness Index (TRI) of the workers and researching the relation between technology readiness and the acceptance of ERP technology named NetSuite in Company X. To evaluating the TRI, the researcher used the updated Technology Readiness Index method developed by Parasuraman in (2014). To research the correlation between technology readiness and the technology acceptance model, the researcher uses Technology Readiness and Acceptance Model (TRAM) and processed by Partial Least Square- Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). The result is Company X has a High Readiness Technology and the variable that affects the behavior intention of using NetSuite is perceived ease of use, the variable affected the perceived ease of use are optimism, innovativeness, and discomfort. The strategy plan designed by the result of the research and validated using Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA).

This research investigates factors influencing the acceptance of the POSKeTanMu online population administration system in Mojokerto Regency using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM 3). POSKeTanMu (Pelayanan Online Sistem Kependudukan Tanpa Ketemu) is a self-service online population administration system for residents of Mojokerto Regency. A quantitative approach with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was applied, analyzing data from 159 respondents through questionnaires. Findings indicate that Behavioral Intention (BI) significantly influences user independence and responsibility. Key factors affecting technology acceptance include perceived usefulness, ease of use, social influence, and experience, while computer anxiety and system usability showed no significant impact. Additionally, the study explores the implementation of the Double Track program using a qualitative case study approach, guided by Thomas Lickona’s character-building theory. Data collection involved interviews, observations, and documentation, analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s framework. Results highlight ease of use, perceived benefits, and social perceptions as major drivers of technology adoption. Positive user experiences and social support play crucial roles in enhancing e-government adoption. This research contributes to the development of POSKeTanMu and provides strategic recommendations for the government to strengthen digital service implementation. Findings offer valuable insights for policy formulation to improve e-government services and promote broader technology adoption in society.
