Abstract

Marvin Shepherd has been Supervisor of Electroenvironmental Safety at the University of California, San Francisco, since September, 1970. He is a past Consultant to the Food and Drug Division of the California Department of Health, and is presently a Consultant to the Hospital Council of Northern California. He has authored or coauthored 20 papers relating primarily to equipment safety and modeling of the eye. His professional affiliations include the IEEE, AAMI, and the Systems Safety Society. James Collard was educated in Birmingham, England. At 21 he came to America and joined the USAF, where he began with eight months of electronics education at Keesler AFB. From that point on, his education was job-related. He has taken courses that cover communications, Nav-aids, and computers, all at manufacturers' schools. After discharge, Collard worked for Bendix Corporation from repairman to manager of a Biomed Service Center. Now he is the manager of Med-Equip, a service corporation in Northern California. He is a member of AAMI, NFPA and a board member of the California Medical Instrument Association (CMIA).
