Abstract

The topic of the article is, first of all, the presentation of contents of the home archive of professor Zbigniew Tadeusz Wierzbicki, a sociologist and social activist, with special emphasis on the letter collection; second of all, the presentation of editorial challenges related to possible publication of this literary legacy. In the text, profesor Wierzbicki’s rich collection of correspondence has been described, with special focus on the correspondence with Jerzy Giedroyc. The author tried to emphasize the value of the archive for understanding not only the person of the co-founder of Torun’s sociology and the significance of the social activities he undertook, but first of all for the understanding of the history of sciences in Poland in the second half of the 20 th century. The manner of ordering and storing the correspondence is analyzed as an editorial task, but also as an element which is essential for biographical studies, in this case on the professor himself and his legacy.
