Abstract

Based on the precise description of a design operation, whose economic relevance is part of the reference space constituted by the current ecological context of architectural design, we distinguish the design space, made up of the operations taking place there, from the resulting architectural space. These operations being the result of architectural scales, a second conceptual distinction operates between a " scale" in the current sense which is a binary relationship of corresponding measurements between map and territory, and the relevance of said relationship, which defines an architectural cartographic scale, of a completely different conceptual nature, ternary in essence.
