Après la chute de l'ex-URSS… Ex-in the Construction of Social Meaning of Proper Nouns in the Written Press The aim of the article is to show the role of the prefix ex-in constructing the social meaning of the proper noun l'URSS in French media discourse. Observing the syntactic context of the proper noun l'URSS where the prefix appears allowed for the distinction of three most common effects of its use : the actualization of the temporal meaning of the proper noun, the strengthening of the enunciator's anthropocentric perspective, and the use of the structure ex-URSS as a tool for categorization in contemporary news press. The analysis is based on press articles that appeared in the journals Le Monde, Le Figaro, Libération, published between 2005 and 2020.
