Abstract

Objective To investigate the value of IVM technique in the treatment of infertility patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Methods The clinical data of 148 infertility patients with PCOS were retrospectively analyzed. According to the treatment regimens, patients were divided them into IVM group (83 cases) and in vitro fertilization (IVF) / intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) group (65 cases). At the same time, 60 infertility patients without PCOS who had received the check for IVF or ICSI in the same period were selected as the control group. The fertilization success rate, gonadotropin (Gn) days, total Gn, film thickness at human chorionicgonagotropin (HCG) day, the total cost of treatment, the positive rate of urinary HCG, ectopic pregnancy rate, clinical pregnancy rate, single pregnancy case, abortion rate, cycle cancellation rate, multiple pregnancy rate, ovarian hyperstimulation sydrome (OHSS) incidence, preterm birth rate, situation of birth weight and low birth weight were compared and analysed among the three groups. Results The fertilization success rate in IVM group and control group was higher than that in IVF/ICSI group, the difference was statistically significant (χ2=4.197, P=0.040), and the difference between IVM group and control group was not significant (χ2=0.014, P=0.907); the Gn days, Gn total amount, film thickness in HCG days and total cost of the treatment in IVM group were lower than those in IVF/ICSI group and control group, the differences were statistically significant (P 0.05); the incidence of multiple pregnancy and OHSS in IVM group were lower than those in IVF/ICSI group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusions IVM technology can prevent the occurrence of OHSS, and access the similar pregnancy outcomes as the IVF / ICSI technique in the treatment of infertile patients with PCOS. Key words: Polycystic ovary syndrome; Infertility; In vitro maturation
