Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of smaller model silica gel catheter in urethroplasty of hypospadias. Methods From January 2012 to December 2015, 76 patients with hypospadias who were treated by different model silica gel catheter were divided into two groups randomly. Thirty-eight patients with small type (6-10 F) silicone catheter (group A), 38 patients with moderate type (10-14 F) silicone catheter as a urethral stent (group B). Postoperative nursing measures were same and observed the curative effect after operation. Results The time of 76 patients with silicone catheter after surgery was 12-21 d, the follow-up time ranged from 1 to 6 months; Group A urinated smoothly after stent removal without complications in 31 cases (31/38, 81.57%), complications of urinary fistula or urethral stricture in 7 cases (7/38, 18.43%); In group B, no operative complications occurred in 24 cases (24/38, 63.15%), urethral stricture or fistula occurred in 14 cases(14/38, 36.85%); The patients were cured after repair. There was significant difference between the two groups in the success rate of surgery (81.57% vs 63.15%), P<0.05. Conclusions The use of a small model of silicone catheter to create a new urethral stent can reduce the complications of hypospadias repair, improve the success rate of surgery. Key words: Smaller model silica gel catheter; Hypospadias; Urethroplasty; Urinary fistula; Urethral stricture
