Abstract

Objective To explore the application of PDCA cycle to the infection and control of the operation rooms in second-class hospitals. Methods The four stages of PDCA circulation management was applied to improve the compliance rate of hand hygiene of personnel in operation room, to strengthen the management of the equipments in operating room and the equipment cleaning quality in the operation room, etc. Thus the incision infection rate was reduced, and the measures for improvement and plan for implementation were put forward, and finally the phased evaluation and summarized was conducted. Results The pass rate of the surgical instruments cleaning was 92% and 98% respectively before and after the implementation of this method. The surgical incision infection rate was 7.42% and 3.46% respectively.Hand hygiene compliance rate was also improved significantly, and the differences were statistically significant before and after the implementation of this method (P< 0.05). Conclusion The application of PDCA circulation management to the management and control of the hospitals in the secondary hospitals can significantly reduce the surgical incision infection rate.It has obvious effect in controlling the hospital infection, which is worth promoting.
