Abstract

In this paper, a new method based on mathematical morphology filtering in noise suppression of magnetotelluric sounding data is presented. The mathematical morphology filtering is designed according to the properties of structuring elements. The performance of filtering different noise types decides a selection of structure elements. Experiment results indicate that the method can effectively eliminate larger scale disturbance of magnetotelluric sounding data. In addition, the method is efficient to keep the main characteristics of the original signals, and has broad application value for deep magnetotelluric exploration and deep prospecting.
