Abstract

This paper proposes firefly algorithm tuned fuzzy logic-based two-degree-of-freedom proportional–integral–derivative (F2DOFPID) controller for the load frequency control of an interconnected diverse-sourced multi-area system having small hydropower plant. Performance analysis of F2DOFPID controller with PID and 2DOFPID controllers proves the dominance of F2DOFPID over the others, in terms of minimal oscillations around steady-state value, minimum settling time and smaller peak deviations. Besides, comparison of cost function values of F2DOFPID with 2DOFPID and PID controller further confirms the above statements.
