Abstract

Objective To study the effect of elastic bandage on alleviating limb swelling of patients with closed fracture of forearm. Methods Eighty-six cases of patients with closed fracture of forearm who had received manipulative reduction were randomly divided into the observation group and the control group, each with 43 cases. The observation group used elastic bandage to bind up and small splint for fixation after manipulative reduction, while the control group directly used small splint for fixation.Swelling degree and tension blister incidence were observed and compared between two groups. Results On the seventh day after manipulative reduction, patients with degree Ⅰ swelling or no swelling were 83.72% in the observation group and 83.72% in the control group. And there was statistically significant difference of swelling degree between two groups (x2 =0.7675,P < 0.01).There was two cases of tension blister in the observation group and 15 in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (x2 =11.918,P < 0.01).Conclusions Elastic bandage is helpful to reduce limb swelling and tension blister in patients with fractures.
