Abstract
Ralph Mansfield is Editor of the Classroom Notes section of the TYCMJ. Before he retired (August 1977) he was Chairman of the Mathematics Department at Chicago City Colleges: Loop College, a visiting lecturer for the MAA, an examiner consultant for the North Central Association for the accreditation of institutions of higher education. He is a former member of the fie)O _Sijj\Ci CUPM Two Year Colleges Panel, the MAA Two Year Colleges Ci 0s,1 Committee. He has taught mathematics at Chicago Teachers 'E l0l College, Lewis Institute of Technology, Armour Institute of Technology, and the merger of these two schools, Illinois Institute of Technology, starting in 1935. In 1943 he left teaching for the engineering profession but returned to teaching in 1962 as chairman of the mathematics department at the Wright College campus of Chicago's City Colleges. He is the author of several articles that have appeared in the TYCMJ and has written three textbooks on mathematics.
