Abstract

Purpose: This case summarizes the clinical features and contact lens fitting results of a 7 year-old boy with diagnoses of microcornea and microphthalmia, who had undergone bilateral cataract surgery at 3 months old due to congenital cataract, and fitted successfully with silicone elastomer lenses afterwards. During visual development period in infancy, aphakic rehabililation is as important as early diagnosis and surgery of congenital cataract to obtain better visual outcomes. Although, both surgical techniques and IOL technology have substantially improved in recent years, a secure intraocular lens implantation may not always be feasible for correction of aphakia in microphthalmic eyes, due to smaller size of the globe.
