Abstract

The American Psychological Association (APA) on Jan. 13 announced that Mitchell J. Prinstein, Ph.D., is its new chief science officer, responsible for leading the association's science agenda and advocating the application of psychological research and knowledge in settings to include academia, government, industry and the law. Prinstein will begin transitioning into the post March 1 after a long career as a psychology professor, researcher and university administrator. He is currently the John Van Seters Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience and assistant dean of Honors Carolina at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He joined the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience faculty at UNC‐Chapel Hill in 2004 as an associate professor, rising to full professor in 2008. He began his academic career in 1999 as an assistant professor and later became the director of clinical psychology at the Yale University Department of Psychology. Prinstein has served on the APA's board of directors as an at‐large member and has been active in APA governance since his work as chair of the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students.
