Allowing patients access to their records — one of the few really positive aspects of the proposed changes to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act's (HIPAA's) privacy rule affecting substance use and mental health providers (see “HHS‐proposed rule gutting HIPAA would especially hurt patients with SUD,” ADAW May 17; https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/adaw.33064) — is possibly going to create too great a burden for small practices, according to a comment filed by the American Psychological Association (APA) last month.
