Abstract
The present study was carried out to assess Anti-inflammatory activity of Melochia corchorifolia extracts (Methanol, Hydroalcoholic, Ethyl acetate and Hexane) using carrageenan-induced rat paw edema model and the results were compared with standard drug Indomethacin. The selected plant extracts significantly inhibited inflammation of paw edema along with the standard drug, Indomethacin. Of all extracts, methanol extract posses’ significant activity compared to other extracts reducing paw edema inflammation on carrageenan induced rats. The methanol extract at a dose of 500 mg/kg showed more percentage inhibition i.e. 53.47±2.19. From the results of the study, it may it may conclude that M. corchorifolia possess bioactive molecule which are responsible for reduction of inflammations individually or in combination. Further studies are needed for isolation and characterization of bioactive molecules from M. corchorifolia.
