Abstract

The fruiting body of Antrodia camphorata, a native species in Taiwan, is very rare and expensive mushroom. It grows on the inner heartwood wall of the Cinnamomum kanehirai, and has been utilized as treatment of food and drug of intoxications, diarrhea, abnormal pains, hypertension, itchy skin, and liver cancer. In this study, six new succinic and maleic acid derivatives (1-6) were investigated the anti-inflammatory potential, the RAW264.7 macrophages cell line was used in this study. The results indicated that compound 1 significantly activated macrophages to secret TNFα, and suppressed LPS-stimulated IL-6 production (IC50 1.0µg/mL) from RAW264.7 macrophages. Compounds 3, 4, and 6 showed medium activity to suppressed IL-6 production with IC50 values 17, 18, and 25µg/mL. Furthermore, IL-6 production were weak decreased by compounds 2 and 5 (IC50 54 and 96µg/mL). These data suggested compounds 1, 3, 4, and 6 have significant anti-inflammatory effected in macrophage-mediated responses.
