Abstract

Anthracnose disease is the major postharvest disease of mango fruit in Thailand. The pathogen which causes this disease, is Colletotrichum gloeosporiodes. It infects the fruit on the tree and the symptoms appear on fruit after harvesting. Antifungal compounds from each part; latex, peel and pulp, of mature green Thai mango 'Nam Dok Mai See Thong' fruit were investigated. Preformed antifungal compounds were detected in peel and latex extracted in dichloromethane fraction using thin layer chromatography (TLC) and bioassay. One of the active compounds in the latex showed the same Rf as that found in the peel, which has been identified as resorcinol derivatives. This compound was purified, identified and shown to be alkyl-resorcinol using preparative TLC and UV-VIS spectrophotometer.
