Abstract

DR. OLWIN (M.D., Rush Medical College) is clinical professor of surgery at the University of Illinois, director of the clinical coagulation laboratory, Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital of Chicago, and a member of the National Research Council's subcommittee on thrombosis and hemorrhage. DR. KOPPEL, who is assistant professor of biochemistry, University of Illinois, and associate attending biochemist at Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital, earned his B.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Toronto. The studies on which this paper is based were supported in part by the Medical Research and Development Board, Office of the Surgeon General, Department of the Army, under Contract No. DA-49-193-MD-2171.
